Today we're taking a break from the leisurely little meandering through my musical appreciation.

Today, in Australia it's ANZAC Day. The 97th anniversary of the WWI dawn landing at Gallipoli of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corp, to me the most important of all the days we commemmorate as a nation. As a nation we've been involved in many military confrontations, the reasons for some were clear, the reasons for others not as clear, but none were as important to our nation as that landing. At the time as a united country we were only a teenager, but the efforts of our servicemen in that conflict forged us into the people that we are today. Our ideals, morals, attitudes, comradeship and larrikin nature presented to the world and still shown to this day.

In a few hours I'm off to our local dawn service, but before then I'd like to share this peice. I had a completely differnet peice in mind, which I'll share tomorrow, but this peice belongs here.

So, number three gave you my first remembered musical love. Number four gives you my first line the ceiling with his posters musical love (because c'mon mom said no posters on the wall, nobody said a thing about the ceiling). I give you Leif Garrett.

You know you want to see more don't you )

Tonight watching Australia's Got Talent there were two acts that surprised me. You can judge for yourself.

My first memory of music as a fan? That would be the Bay City Rollers.

Music is the heart of life to me. I have a song for everything and everyone and every mood, every memory even. Most of us do, even if we don't consciously realise it. I'm going to share some of the music that is important to me here, the reasons why it is and maybe even some memories along the way. I should probably apologise from the get go because the bulk of this music is going to be Australian with a heavy dose of British

First cab off the rank? I Hear Motion//The Models.

Why this song? )

BTW if anyone wants any of the songs I share here, let me know

Okay, so my sister drags me into her room and practically throws me at her TV and says who does this remind you of?

So, peoples, any ideas?

Shamelessly stolen from [livejournal.com profile] stellarmeadow, because we all need more fic.

Here's a song comment fic meme for you!

Here's how it works - you give me a number between 1 and 6240. I'll give you the corresponding song on my mp3 player. Then anyone (you, me, anyone else) can jump in and write a snippet, ficlet, or entire fic inspired by the song. More than one person can respond to the lyrics, too.

I keep saying that next week is going to be calmer but it never seems to happen, the crazy just seems to get ramped up a notch higher every week. Because I'm too lazy/busy to adventure with more than dot points, welcome to my weekend round up.

# Have spent the last few days putting together flat pack furniture. DO not understand why they bother translating instructions from whatever language they start in to english if they end up as unrecognisable jibberish.

#Must stop using Hawaiian themed ablutionary solutions. Not only does it make me pine for my second home but now my hair (which generally makes straw ticking look soft and manageable) is so soft and silky, courtesy of the coconut and frangipani oils, that my hair bands are all just sliding off.

#Have a squillion things to write and update and even with a dictation program I still am not getting enough time to make with the writing. Frustrating, much?

#My sister, damn her, is trying to suck me into Dark Angel and Lost Girl. I think she is succeeeding with the first, not so much with the second.

#Speaking of the sibling? One of our local tv stations has just started playing Moonlight. To say she is smitten by Mick St John is something akin to saying Romeo might have fancied Juliet. When I say to her 'you know that's Steve McG, don't you?" Her response is 'Yeah but he's sexy with some meat on him.'

#On that subject, good to hear that AOL is going to be back on deck soon. I'm sure they've missed him as much as we have, and whilst Chin is a worthy replacement for the NCIS:LA/H50 crossover I'm still sad I get no Steve/Danny/Deeks interaction, but health is something you can't replace and he needs to look out for himself.

#I'm being forced to drive (okay not forced but I don't have the energy for the argument)the family to Sizzler for dinner. I'm so not in the mood for that shit. Eating at Sizzler in my neighbourhood is like a food fight with the cast of My Name is Earl.

# Need a new character member outside of the core four for character discussion, anyone got any ideas?

#speaking of the core four I'm afeared for one of them this season. I hope my spidey senses are tingling for nothing.

So like the subject line said, last night I went to a concert. A Duran Duran concert. At the time I had a good time, but when I woke this morning I realised I am a little disappointed. Why? Let me tell you a story.

Last April I went to a concert of a band I had a similar love for, Spandau Ballet. It was a lovely bright beautiful day leading up to the gig. They had the crowd on their feet from the moment their curtain dropped (and yes their curtain drops, it's a really cool unusual opening). Every person in the place knew every single song, the venue was sold out and it showed. I loved that gig, and to say that it has become my yardstick for live music is an understatement.

Yesterday we had torrential rain, and for most of the day it was cold and miserable. I hate driving in the rain, seriously loathe it, so I was tense and cranky before I started. Getting from the car into the venue meant that we were dripping wet before we started. When we got inside I was disappointed with my city. They had an abbreviated seating set up and even that wasn't even full.

As soon as the people around me sat down I realised that I was going to be unimpressed with my seats. I'm 5'5" tall and I was 12 rows from the stage and slightly off centre, pretty good I thought. Yet at the very first note when everyone jumped to their feet, I felt like a bonzai in a forest of sequioas. The only saving grace in that situation? The window of vision I did have was a clear line to the drum kit. Have I mentioned that I'm a sucker for a drummer? That said, I didn't take many photos but I did manage almost 1gb of video snippets.

The music was good, sometimes spectacular, that in itself was my fault, I haven't had time to familiarise myself with the brand new stuff so I didn't really 'know' it, and that was compounded by the fact that the members of the crowd that were only there for the 'old stuff' would sit down and tweet or whatthefuckever while those songs were being performed. Let me tell you that half the crowd disconnecting like that around you is a huge distraction.

I have a huge soft spot for Duran, they were my first 'real' concert, 19 November 1983. I still have the program the tshirt and the ticket stub. JT told us that they have a soft spot for us because we were the first place they ever had a number 1. They've only played here three times, the second time they came here specially because they were the support for Robbie Williams who didn't play anywhere in our state but they came here on their own.

Did I enjoy it? Yes, but is it a gig I'm going to talk about for a long time to come? Probably not. It will be enough for me to know that I was there, that they are still my Duran and I still love their music and always will and will always see them whenever I can.

That said, have a couple of pictures.
Pretty pretty boys )

I know I have country fans out there, and I need some new music, anyone want to help me out?

So, we aren't getting Act of Valor down here until at least May. The only download I have found of it turned out to be Korean Porn. I. don't. even.

I have been devouring the soundtrack. thought y'all might like to share, because seriously this is the best complete album I have heard in a long time. Every single song is a keeper and the whole thing has so much heart that it almost hurts to listen to it.

If you'd like to share, and you know you want to.

So, it seems that I can't make myself shut up.

I have an enquiring mind and it wants to know something. Music and it's tenuous connection to the characters we watch if a big part of fic writing to me. Sometimes I will even have a band/artist that everything they do seems to give me plot bunnies for particular characters.

Is this the same for all you fellow writers?

Tonight's example would be Steve McGarrett. The song that I hear that automatically means Steve is Boulevard of Broken Dreams by Green Day, but if we're talking emotionally it has to be I'll be Guilty.

Why? I'll tell you my reasons if you tell me your Steve songs. And while we're here, care to share?
