Finally, everyone together and whilst I'm sad there was no max, yay no Joe, can we do that with Lori too?

Love that they used volleyball. The only sport that I had any school prowess in doesn't get enough love.

Though fairly dodgy premise, doesn't HPD have a homicide squad?

So glad that Malia is back, Chin needs some loving.

I'm trying to like Lori, honest I am.

Cargument! YAY! Danny getting shot at, Steve eye rolling, good times, good times. But where is the seque to "Danny move in with me"

That's where Lori belongs, Chin's partner while Kono is doing other things, after that she can be fifth wheel. Seriously!

I love the detailing of Malia having Chin's ring on a chain, still. That's special.

That scene with Lori and Chin in room 104 was just...odd. and please don't tell me that pseudo interrogation was the not so subtle beginnings of attraction/interest in Steve because no. Just no.

BTW, that played like claustrophobia to me not impatience, just saying.

Chin's expressions? Priceless.

That motel gets a lot of action, isn't that the same one as in Palekaiko?

Forgive me for being so McGarrett focussed but that 'chat' with Chin about Kono? That to me was more Steve being upset about not knowing what danger his people were in than being indignant pissed at not being told.

Billy/Alec/Steve/Dan Baldwin remains skilled at the skeevy.

Love, Love, Love the car chase, but how Hawaii!Geek does it make me that I was bouncing knowing that I've driven that road.

Loribot 2000 (tm [livejournal.com profile] stellarmeadow) had to handcuff Kono because Steve knew he and Danny couldn't.

That whole scene with Kono/Chin/Steve in interrogation? Heartbreaking, from all of them. And of course Steve is going to go hard at her because that is how he is, he doesn't/can't do soft when things are all fucked up like that.

Steve/Sleazmore toe to toe, that is perfect, but the first time I see that pairing in slash I swear I will leave the internets to their own devices.
There must be a squillion cut scenes that explain all this because clearly we're not supposed to see the big pink elephant, but it's trumpeting happily.

Billy/Alec/Steve/Dan Baldwin and Randy = skeevy squared.

And Steve, honey, I love you but you're hardly one to talk about revenge. Just saying.

Kono trusts her back up. Awww. Also yay for Chin and his techiness.

I do love it when they have good weapons. I want Steve and Danny's big guns.

I have so missed Kono kicking ass and taking no prisoners.

Somebody need to tell Sleazmore to enunciate because I have no clue what he's saying – either that or he needs to learn to carry semaphore flags.

Also, hit him again for me Steve.

That last scene, the new iconic 'team' scene, just pisses me off. And not only because Danny didn't have thigh holsters. Also because this is how it should have finished.

So all in all, I think we're back on the tracks rather than running parallel.

I'm trying to put together a comment, but I got stuck on Steve and Danny's 'big guns'. Ahem. Though seriously, if I saw Danny in a thigh holster, I might spontaneously combust. I have enough trouble functioning when I see one (or two!) on Steve.

I'm washing my eyes out at the merest mention of that...pairing. Just say no, people. *shudders*

Loribot 2000. *snert*

As I said in your comment to my post, totally with you on the Steve thing. And with you on all this, including sheafrotherdon's perfect little coda. Nice to have things feeling mostly back the way they should be. =)

Hi, Kapuahi

I was reading through your comments and several of them gave me a chuckle, but these two were my favorites:

"I want Steve and Danny's big guns."--There are several ways that statement could be interpreted. LOL!!!

"Somebody needs to tell Sleaszmore to enunciate because I have no clue what he's saying – either that or he needs to learn to carry semaphore flags."--ROTFL!!!! I LOVE this one!!! Sleaszmore mumbles horribly, and I couldn't understand most of what he said when he was talking to Steve. I'm glad that others have difficulty understanding him too, and it's not just a problem with my ears.

Take care!!! : )

So much better, I agree. Especially Steve in thigh holsters and using military!speak while looking down the sights of a big gun (Shallow? Who, me?). And the argument about getting shot :)

But... I've tried, I really have, but Lauren can't act (not this character, anyway). The scene between her and Chin was excruciatingly painful to watch, even worse than the scene in the dive bar last week. At least I can fast-forward through it on re-watch.

I totally agree about Steve asking Lori to handcuff Kono 'coz they couldn't.

Also on that "epic" end team scene. I get what they were going for, but there should have been hugs! And talking. I dunno, it just fell a bit flat to me. Overall, very happy with the ep, though. :)

I agree with this entire statement. I've also tried to like Lori, and I think I could like the character if somebody besides Lauren played her. I had never heard of Lauren German prior to H50, but I've come to the conclusion that she cannot act this part. Her acting, her facial expressions, and tone of voice are all flat. There is nothing remarkable about Lori, and Lauren seems to get worse with each progressive episode. I also don't see any chemistry between her and any of the cast...not Alex, not Scott, and based on this scene with Chin last night, not Daniel. I hate to say it, but Lori has the distinction of being the first female character that I dislike on H50, and with my luck she will be the one they keep. *groans*

I don't blame Lori for being interested in Steve--the man is damn fascinating--but I think the important thing to focus on is that she has all of these questions about Steve and he isn't sharing any of himself with her. It's Danny who knows him because Steve's gone out of his way to get to know Danny. I think that's a good sign :)

And Chin so did not care one iota on Lori's opinion on anything and he flatly told her so--FABULOUS!

I don't mind Lori but babbling to Chin about her crush on Steve was highly inappropriate and just strange. Let her focus on working the cases and getting to know everyone on the team.

And I loved that the McDanno was back the way it should be :)

I have what is affectionately called a gun fetish. H50 does all sorts of lovely things for said affliction. I said that exact statement to one of my friends and he responded with 'sadly I know she is talking about actual weapons'.

I needed subtitles for Sleazmore every time he spoke. In the end I gave up and concentrated on our boys instead.

Hi Tarnished,

Yay! Bonanza!

I blame my mother, she used to sit me on a baby blanket in front of the tv, Bonanza and Gunsmoke were my babysitters, I got older and moved to Starsky and Hutch and SWAT but content was always the same, hot men with hot guns.

`Hi again, Kapuahi

YAY you for recognizing that icon!!! : )

I blame my father. LOL!!! He introduced me to re-runs of his favorite westerns when I was a tot. My father was a Southern cowboy. He raised beef cattle and taught me to ride. Some of my earliest TV memories are of re-runs of Bonanza (i.e. Adam who has the distinction of being my first crush), The Big Valley (i.e. Jarrod and Heath), and Gunsmoke (I never crushed on anyone in that cast; although, I admired Matt Dillion's character he didn't get me hot and bothered).

I was hoping after H50's 2.02 ep that western AU fics would start popping up, but alas it hasn't happened.

My mother told me that I used to sit on my blanket and never move until the cowboys were gone. I went from Bonanza (Little Joe was my crush) to Gunsmoke, big Valley, The Rifleman, High Chapperal, The Virginian, cheyenne, the list was endless. Pretty much meant that if it had a horse and a six gun I was there.

I liked the tiny revival we had in the 80/90's. The Young Riders and Magnificent Seven were pretty good.

I've got a western AU all plotted out but I have to finish a couple of challenge fics first.

Howdy,

I watched all of those westerns too. I never went for Little Joe because he was a bit too much of a womanizer for my tastes. He just tried too hard. That type has always put me off. But he is the favorite for most Bonanza fans.

I was a teenager when The Young Riders ran, and that show was catnip for teen girls. My favorites were Kid and Jimmy, but I was quite fond of Buck and Noah too. Kid and Jimmy were my first slash pairing. *g*

I was a Magnificent Seven fan as well. Chris, Ezra, and Vin held my attention, but I liked Josiah because I remembered Ron Perlman from his role as Vincent in TV's Beauty & the Beast. I also loved Dr. Quinn. Sully and Michaela are my favorite TV romance. Basically, if a show has horses (my first love; I currently own a Tennessee Walker gelding and a Paso Fino mare), at least one hot guy, and guns I'm going to check it out. LOL!!!

I noticed that you friended me, and I checked out your profile and discovered we have more common ground; so, I friended back. I'm also a Harry Potter and a Garth Brooks fan. George Strait is my favorite artist though.

I look forward to reading your western AU fic. : )

TYR was my first online fandom, I had a serious thing for Buck, Jimmy/Buck was my first slash pairing, I even dabbled in het in TYR because if you squinted just the right way Kid/Lou was almost slash right?

I loved M7, I have been a Micheal Biehn fan for forever, so him and cowboy roles, I wasn't ever going to miss that. I drifted around pairing wise there, Ezra/Vin, Ezra/Buck and Buck/JD mainly. I loved Dr Quinn too.

I love horses too, I once lived on a cattle station (an aussie ranch) and had a couple of horses, but I love Tennessee Walkers and Percherons.

I love Garth, he has the distinction of being the only artist I have slept out for tickets for and I followed him all over Australia to every gig he did down here. I love George Strait too. I wore out my Pure Country video.

Once I get done with my challenge fics, thats my first mission. (Sherrif Steve, Pinkerton Danny, zen like doctor Chin (think M7 Nathan) and saloon owner Kono)

Howdy again,

Buck was definitely YUMMY!!! He didn't get enough scenes though I liked that the character was played by a native american. I have two great grandparents who were of native descent. A full Cherokee great grandfather on my mother's side, and a great grandmother who was 3/4 Creek on my father's side. I loved Kid/Lou and Jimmy/Lou as well. I've always been a mix and match shipper. I move characters around in my head like jigsaw puzzle pieces. LOL!!!

I agree that Michael Biehn was born to play a cowboy, and he was wonderful as Chris. *YUMMY sigh* I never went for Buck although the actor that played him was HOT. The character was another one of those that tried too hard. I actually thought H50's Danny was going to turn out to be a womanizer, but then his first scene with little Gracie banished those thoughts. Danny's a flirt, but he doesn't take it too far as to be obnoxious.

I think that it is neat that you lived on an cattle station. I've wanted to go to Australia ever since I saw the The Man From Snowy River (Tom Burlinson was another early crush) and its sequel Return to Snowy River. The Hugh Jackman film, Australia just recently renewed that impulse. *g*

I grew up around Quarter Horses. That is what my parents kept to work our cattle, and I owned a couple of Arab crosses when I was younger. The reason I have the TWH and Paso now are because the older I get the more I appreciate the gaited stock. They don't have that jarring bounce at the trot. I'm sure my back and knees will thank me one day too. LOL!!! I had a friend who owned a Perch/warmblood cross that she used for dressage.

I've never seen Garth in concert, but I certainly would like to one day. It's neat that you followed him around Australia. : ) YAY another George Strait fan too. : ) Yep, I had the Pure Country video and now I have the DVD.

Oh, I LOVE the way you have cast the H50 team in your western fic. I can already see how Steve and Danny will have differing approaches to solving mysteries and catching bad guys. Chin would make an ideal doctor, and I could see Kono as a saloon owner ala Gunsmoke's Miss. Kitty.

Hi Tarnished!

I greatly admire you for giving Lauren/Lori a chance--I had too many spoilers, I couldn't do it. I agree with you that Lauren can't do this part--I've seen only a tiny bit of her other work, so I don't want to judge, but I probably could after some time on You Tube. I don't think it's just her fault though: these folks can't write female characters. Sure Kono is great, but what does she do? She follows Chin around and kicks ass every once in awhile. Is that really enough? If they want good female characters on this show, they have to hire writers who can write them.

Yes, indeed YAY for M7 and TYR!!! I'm pleased to see another fan of these two westerns among the H50 fandom, and I LOVE your Ezra icon. Anthony Starke was great in that role, and I really like his Southern accent:. This is high praise because I'm a born and bred Georgia girl, and I judge film/TV Southern accents harshly.

I'm a huge Ezra and M7 fan, although recently H50 has been taking over my brain! It's nice to hear you approve of Ezra's accent. I'm from the midwest, and am not a good judge of accents, but it's nice to know that Tony did good with it. I've heard some people complain about Alex's American accent, but I think he does a pretty good job. I think it sounds a bit NY-ish though, not really what I would imagine a Hawaiian to sound like. The US has so many different accents, and if people move around, their accents can get muddy.

Hi, Beruthiel

Long time no see. ; )

I've been wondering where you were. I haven't seen a comment from you in a while, and I was afraid that you had given up on H50. I know that you were not looking forward to the introduction of Lori.

Thanks!!! I tried to keep an open mind regarding Lori just as I have all the other female characters on H50, but Lori is the first one that I just don't like, and I can't make myself like her. This is going to sound harsh, but she is as about as interesting to me as a limp dishtowel, and Lauren German's acting (or lack thereof) is painful to watch at times. Yeah, I know it's a mean thing to say, but I can't lie or sugarcoat how I feel.

I think the problem is the H50 writers/producers see the female characters as interchangeable and disposable. Some of them were interesting women. I think there was a lot of room for development with both Catherine and Jenna, but instead they sent them packing and brought in Lori. Governor Jameson was interesting, but they made her evil and killed her off, and we never even got to know Laura Hills. I really wanted her character to get more air time because I like Kelly Hu as an actress. She would have been good as the governor's new spy instead of Lori if TPTB hadn't decided to kill her off. And, you know how much I liked Rachel. I think Jean Smart and Claire van der Boom are the best actresses that this show has had, and both were terribly underused. As for the new addition of Dr. Gabrielle Asano (Danny's new love interest introduced in ep 2.04), I'm keeping an open mind about her too. Like German, I had never heard of Autumn Reeser either, but I'll give her character a fair shot too.

I agree with you about Kono. I like Kono, but I don't love her character (and I want to), and I think the reason that I don't is because she is under developed. I see her basically as the team's go-to-girl when they need someone to go undercover, and then she kicks ass somewhere in the episode, but she doesn't really do anything else. I felt the greatest connection and interest toward her last season when she was defending Chin or visiting her family. Examples are ep 1.03 when she spoke with her and Chin's cousin Sid in defense of Chin, and in ep 1.20 when she was promising her Auntie that she would help patch things up between Chin and her Uncle.

Take care and stay in touch!!! : )

Hi Tarnished--

No, I haven't givien up--just lying low, hanging out with the choir (you know, those people you preach to... : - D ), waiting to see what the rest of the fandom thinks.

I honestly didn't give serious thought to the female characters until I saw Lori. Then I realized the show had four failed ones (Mary, Laura, Jenna, and Lori). Now I know Mary is coming back, but she was supposed to get a lot more screen time last year. Jenna was supposed to be the mythical fifth member, and they gave up on her. Laura was, I thought, supposed to be a thorn in McGarrett's side, and first they didn't use her, then they killed her off. And now Lori, who is a total mess--I mean, how can she be a love interest for McG, a female McG, and a spy for the governor all at the same time, all while acting like an eighth grader?

As you said, the writers/producers just don't value the women characters, so the others (Rachel, etc..) haven't fared much better--they don't get much to do and they don't have much backstory. I hope they at least do better with Kono--like showing her with her family more (without turning it into a soap opera).

Take care,

YUMMY icon!!! I remember when Ezra got in over his head and lost a bit more than his shirt in that poker game...heehee. It made the Ezra fangirls (myself included) VERY happy. ; )

H50 has been monopolizing my brain since the pilot ep last season. I haven't had a show capture my interest like this since JAG ended in 2005.

I don't have a problem with Alex's accent. Like you, I think he does well with it, and I also don't think I've heard enough native Hawaiians speak to judge what Alex should make Steve sound like. LOL!!!

I know. The U.S. has dozens of different accents. It is amazing how varied they all are based on what region or state that you were raised in. Yes, moving around can definitely alter an accent even for a short time. I was in upstate New York for work a few years ago. I was there for about 6 months, and my accent started to change. But, when I came back down South again, my Southern drawl came back full force. But, if I had been up there longer who knows what impact it would have had on the way I speak.

Hi, Beruthiel

ROTFL @ "(you know, those people you preach to". Yes, I do get preachy on occasion don't I? ; )

I agree the writers failed with Laura and Lori, and I think they were succeeding with Jenna until they just gave up on her. I've read that Lenkov said she didn't have any chemistry with the cast, and I don't buy it. I think there was a sweet sibling like chemistry with both Steve and Danny, and of course there is a part of me that ships Steve/Jenna. She brought out the same protective instincts in him that Mary did, but unlike Mary, she isn't his sister; so, I can give my mind free rein to ship them. I think TPTB dumped Jenna because she didn't appeal to the male demographic that the series is trying to attract. BLAH!!! IMO, Jenna was miles more interesting than Lori and Larisa was a better actress too. I think they were succeeding with Mary too, but since TPTB are bringing her back I'll reserve judgment before I call that a fail. When I bought the season 1 DVD box set I realized how much of her story ended up on the cutting room floor. There were several deleted scenes that gave us more insight into Mary and her relationship with Steve.

I don't see Lori as a female McGarrett. I pray they drop the love interest for Steve idea too. Just the thought of Steve and Lori together makes me gag. Again, I know that's harsh, but it's the truth. She does act like an "eighth grader" doesn't she?!! Her conversation with Chin in 2.05 and her teasing Danny about asking out Gabrielle in 2.04 both seem immature to me. Good observation!!! : )

I hope they expound on Kono's story and introduce us to more of her and Chin's extended family. And, there is a part of me that is hoping that Danny and Rachel find their way back to each other before the series ends. I think that I will always ship those two just like I will always ship Steve/Danny. It's early, but I think those two ships will remain my favorites throughout the series.

Take care!!! : )

Hi Tarnished,

Well, re: the preaching, I meant me. ; - ).

I liked Jenna a whole lot more than Lori--not really surprising. I'm sure a lot of people who hated her are saying that now. I haven't watched all the deleted scenes, but I've heard that a lot of Mary's scenes were cut--that's probably why Taryn Manning was so upset.

Even if not all of those women characters were ultimate failures, the writers should never have had to tinker with them that much. These people are supposed to be professionals, but apparently they are better at some things than others. They can only go UP from Lori. I hope. Imagine if they did even worse? Eek. Anyway, I really hope things improve soon.

Take care,

Thanks. I don't have a lot of icon spaces, but most of them are of Ezra. :) The tablecloth scene was definitely an eye-opener! I remember when I first saw it and was surprised at what had been hiding underneath all those clothes!

I don't think I've heard enough Hawaiians speak to judge either. On the show, it seems like the natives, meaning people with Hawaiian ancestors, have a different accent. Like Kamekona. I guess that's similar to Native Americans who grew up on a reservation but still speak English with a unique accent.
