You know I'm sick of being told that just because I and friends of mine don't like a character and happen to mention said dislike out loud that we're misogynist character bashers.
Get over yourselves people we'd hate her if she was a man, hell I'd hate her if she was a dog.
For the last time IT'S NOT BECAUSE SHE'S A WOMAN.

Date: 2011-11-19 02:50 pm (UTC)People are focusing on the "because she's a woman" because this fandom is largely slash based and because this fandom has attacked other female characters (Rachel, Catherine, and Jenna) in the past because they feared they were going to sink their Steve/Danny ship. I saw a fair bit of it last year from the more vocal parts of the fandom. However, the difference with Lori is that a bigger portion of fandom dislikes her, and these people are more likely to give reasons WHY they dislike her rather than just bashing for the sake of bashing. The problem is the bashing pattern has already been established by last year's dislike of the other female characters; so, some people in the fandom are going to be quick to jump on the misogynistic bandwagon because of those past fandom transgressions. It isn't fair or accurate, but I think that is what is going on here.
Just my two cents worth on your comment.

Very good point.

Date: 2011-11-19 11:37 am (UTC)This would not have happened with a new male character because writers wouldn't treat a male character the way they've been mistreating Lori as a character - it's due to the fact that she's a female character (and German being a bad actress, alas) that she's nothing but traits and "tell, but no show" writing.
And a mannequin for ass shots etc, because that's what blonde female characters are good for, duh.

Date: 2011-11-20 01:21 pm (UTC)Calling someone a "bitch" is sexist language, within context it's not necessarily sexist or misogynistic, seeing a badly written and badly acted female character being systemically bashed with that kind of language kind of hints at a deeper meaning.
As I said in my comments - this wouldn't have happened with a male character because the writers and show runners would never create such a vapid male character in the first place.

Date: 2011-11-19 02:09 pm (UTC)I'm sick to death of having what I say being labeled as misogynistic just because I don't like a character that is female.

Date: 2011-11-19 02:56 pm (UTC)I won't be one of the ones "bitch[ing] about Joe". I like him, but I respect that you don't. So far, Lori, Fryer, and Stan are the only three characters that I hate. I don't like the villains (Wo Fat, Hesse, and Sang Min) either, but they are villains; so, I'm not supposed to like them anyway. : )

Date: 2011-11-19 04:48 pm (UTC)Why does Lori/Lauren German rate such special treatment? And if Lauren German can't take any criticism directed towards her about her acting or the character she plays, then maybe she's in the wrong line of work.

Date: 2011-11-20 12:03 am (UTC)But seriously, it's not because she's a woman. It's because she's a horribly introduced, overused, unnecessary character played by someone who seems to have very little to no acting abilities whatsoever. Why is that so hard to understand?
